Now there's a concept. I didn't think I would be posting such a bitchy blog so soon but, this has been a thorn in my side for some time now.
What has happened to quality, professionalism, and accountability? Do we work hard for the lives we lead only to throw time and money away on less than stellar workmanship? On companies or people who can make you feel like you're wasting their time? Why are we becoming a society who will put up with less than is expected?
Perhaps it is because we don't want to make a ripple, be labelled the "difficult" one, “hard to please” or my personal favourite “high maintenance." When truth be told, the only label that should be used is “valued consumer."
I am so sick of hearing statements like, "it's not a big deal” or "it's not worth the effort." Perhaps at times, it's not the biggest deal but does that mean I shouldn't speak up? Try to right a wrong? Receive what I paid for?
Why should it be that I have to choose between ones that are seen as more crucial than others in order that I not be considered picky or fussy?
The answer I am often told is that you can’t have or expect perfection and I couldn't disagree more.
I expect what was agreed to, I expect quality, I expect communication and honesty. That is not an expectation of perfection and I refuse to accept that it is. I believe everyone should be able to expect the best from people as well as themselves.
I don't believe anyone is perfect. Mistakes happen. We all make them. It's the ability to own up to those mistakes when they are brought to our attention and doing everything possible to correct them. Being accountable affords us the opportunity to learn from our mistakes and grow.
Besides, making mistakes is not always a bad thing. Sure it makes you feel like crap about yourself or your abilities for a time. But then you brush yourself off and move forward a little prouder and wiser for having the ability to learn.
And that's all I have to say about that…..at least for right now.
